Animal Welfare
All birds are captured & banded with federal & provincial permits in place by trained and certified professionals. We have scheduled these experiences to give our birding specialists and participants the best chance to see wild birds. However, many factors outside our control make it impossible to guarantee that participants will see wildlife.
Participants will not have an opportunity to handle any birds but will get a chance to see them up close.
We allow up to 16 participants per event to ensure the welfare of all animals. Other precautions including an orientation will be in place to prevent added stress on the animals.
These events are part of Redberry Lake Biosphere’s ongoing and scheduled conservation work designed to track species of birds and their population. This work contributes to conservation across the continent.
Adopt A Bird
For just $50 extra you can adopt one of the birds caught and banded during your experience! You will receive:
- An 8×12 Photo Print of you with the bird you’ve adopted.
- Details of the bird’s age, sex, weight, wing length and unique band number, as well as some general life history information such as the species’ range and habits
- If your bird is ever recaptured, we will contact you with the details of the recovery so that you can track its progress!
